I do not see the correlation
The words
I've also noticed that people
have, like, added me in terms of where
I'm living or whatever, like my house or. I don't know.
However, I don't see why
my apartment is being brought up
in regards to me being racially discriminated.
I honestly call me tapped. But I do not see the correlation.
Because materialistic things or whatever you gain in society is
not gonna prevent you from experiencing racism.
If you are black.
If you're a person of color. That. Yeah.
Other people have mentioned things about,
like, what I wear or the way I dress. And yo,
like, I can't lie. That's hella toxic.
I, again, do not see the correlation
between what I wear and experiencing racism.
I don't see the correlation between wearing
designer and, like, being
racially profiled or not.
Like, the police don't care. Like, if they see a black person.
Like, literally, they see black, they're like, criminal.
The room
Some of the replies to what I had posted had started bringing up my flat and my clothes, as if where I lived or what I wore were evidence about whether I had experienced racism. I answered them directly.
Call me tapped, I said, but I don’t see the correlation. Whatever you gain in society is not going to prevent you from experiencing racism if you’re Black. People had mentioned what I wear; I called that toxic. I don’t see the correlation between wearing designer and being racially profiled or not. Whatever someone has on, the people making those decisions see Black first and conclude the rest.
While I said it, I put three of the comments up on screen next to my face. I didn’t argue with them. I let the words sit there while I answered the idea underneath them. It is a method I have kept.
The April version of this argument was a theory about gold chains. By now it had been tested on me in public, and it held.
