I thanked anyone who had taken the time to watch and listen and hear me out — from the bottom of my heart — and then I said the sentence that turned out to be the method for everything since: me personally, I had to reclaim my own story, and I hope that anyone watching starts to reclaim theirs.
I didn’t have a word for what I was doing in 2021. I have one now. The alternative to telling it myself was being subdued in someone else’s language, and I declined. Every page on this surface is the same decision made again, one passage at a time: the words as I said them, the date I said them, and the receipt behind them.
Let’s take it from there, I said. So we did.
