No amount of money
The words
One thing I just want to address is the fact that people
are coming for me
because of what I wear. And,
like, I'm confused.
Like, I just want to make one thing clear.
Regardless of what I wear, my skin color
is still viewed as a threat in this society.
So no matter what I acquire, no matter what
I achieve, at the end of the day, I will still experience racism.
And no amount of money,
no amount of success, no amount of education can
protect me from racism.
And that's the sad reality
that we're living in.
So honestly, that's all I have to say on that.
The room
This is the first thing I said on the first day of filming what became THE UK IS NOT INNOCENT. White tracksuit, the London skyline behind me, 2021. For years the footage lived in a folder called DELETED, and I believed the name. It was never gone. It opens here.
People were coming for me in the comments because of what I wore. I had a coat that cost money and an argument that cost more, and strangers had decided the first cancelled the second. So I made one thing clear before anything else: regardless of what I wear, my skin is still read as a threat. No matter what I acquire or achieve, I will still experience racism. No amount of money, no amount of success, no amount of education can protect me from it.
In August 2026 I built an essay around these sixty seconds and called it NO AMOUNT OF MONEY CAN PROTECT US. The point of those comments was never the coat. It was a disqualification, and this was my first answer to it, recorded before I had the words to call it that. By the time I filmed it, the first chapter of Am I Really Free? had already happened to me.
