Two sentences that place the whole film. We were living in Norway, which is where I’m from. Norway — she’s from Norway. It is a predominantly white country, very Eurocentric in all its ways.

I say it flatly, the way you would give a coordinate, because that is what it is: the place I am from is also the place where I am most visible as the exception. Everything else in this archive stands on that fact — the standard I was measured against was set somewhere before I arrived, and I spent a childhood learning its rules by failing them.

The film asks its question in English and answers it, by accident, in a domain name. I did not plan that. I noticed it later, going back through the tape, which is how I notice most things.
