Your voice still counts
The words
Because in life, like, sometimes we lose our voice and
we just need to be reminded. We need to be reminded of what
our voice actually looks like,
sounds like, and that it matters
exactly what your voice actually sounds like, and that your voice matters.
Your voice still counts.
And it's consent.
Consent is the key.
Consent is the key.
Consent is the key to everything.
The room
This is the line I would put on the wall, if this surface had a wall.
Sometimes in life we lose our voice, I said, and we need reminding of what it looks like, what it sounds like, and that it matters. Your voice still counts. And then the word I have not stopped using since: consent. Consent is the key. Consent is the key to everything.
I had found the first of those sentences written down somewhere I didn’t expect, at a time when I needed a sentence more than I ever have. I repeated it until it was mine. The camera caught me handing it on the same day I got it back. It is the shortest manifesto I have, and I didn’t write it. I repeated it.
