So I mean, racism in itself is inherently problematic.
So I mean, growing a platform, talking about it
is going to be problematic as well.
It's not even, it's not easy. But at the same time, I
think about all of the things I've had to go through,
all of the things
my family has had to go through, what my ancestors have to go through, what you've been through,
like what, like.

And I'm like, you know what,
we've gone through all of this
and the UK still does not want to pay us reparations.
So at the end of the day, people growing
and spreading awareness
and making a name for themselves
in regards to activism, you know, what
do you like, yeah, honestly,
like monetize your pain because you're not gonna get reparations from the UK anytime soon.

I appreciate that. But I'm not gonna lie. At the end of the day, like,
I mean, it's like for me it's about the
impact rather than the followers.
You can have all the followers in the world, but that does not mean you're actually
making an impact.
And what does your impact look like?
Does your impact look like someone buying your lip kit, no offense,
or does your impact look like
a young black girl texting you, saying,
whoa, like, I saw your video and
I'm actually proud to be black?
The room
By April 2021 the platform was already bigger than the flat it was filmed in, and the interviewer asked the question people still ask me: isn’t growing an audience by talking about racism a problem in itself?
I gave two answers. The first is the uncomfortable one. Racism is the problem; talking about it will always look like a problem too. My family, my ancestors, the person sitting opposite me — all of us had already paid for what we knew. If this country was never going to pay reparations, then yes: monetise your pain. I meant it as arithmetic, not appetite.
The second answer is the one I would carve over a door. Followers are a number. Impact is a message from a young Black girl who saw a video and felt proud of her own skin. It is the only metric I have ever trusted, and it is still the one I use.
In 2026 I would phrase the first answer differently. I am not asking anyone for reparations; I am trying to become one. But I wouldn’t take it back. The tape shows a twenty-two-year-old working out, in public, how to be paid for the truth without being bought by it.
